Score 90/100 · Drink 2024-2034, Jeb Dunnuck, Apr 2024

A ripe, plump, mature Pomerol drinking at point today, the 2005 Clos De La Vieille Eglise offers ample darker berry fruits as well as some truffly earth, tobacco, and subtle floral and spicey nuances. Medium to full-bodied and nicely textured, it has a nice mix of richness and freshness. Drink bottles over the coming decade.

The 2005 Clos de la Vieille Eglise is a powerful, extracted Pomerol. Black cherry, chocolate, new leather, licorice, smoke, gravel and cloves give this super-concentrated Pomerol tons of intensity. There is not a whole lot of subtlety here, that is for sure. Bitter, astringent tannins linger.

This is a mediocre Pomerol – lean, austere, and lacking concentration and density.
