Aromas of ripe plums and berries and hints of tar. Full body, with velvety tannins and a lovely texture. Fruit and coffee character on the palate. Structured. Classy and powerful. Needs two or three years to soften. Better than 2006.

This lush red is full of sweet plum, cherry, cedar and tea notes, getting support from dense, ripe tannins. The result is a balanced combination of sweet fruit and spice elements on the prolonged finish. 4,500 cases made, 200 cases imported.

Good bright, dark red. Subdued but pure aromas of dark cherry liqueur, mocha and spicy oak. Dense, smooth and rather suave; quite ripe but with a lighter touch than the regular bottling. This is broad and rich without any heaviness. More tightly coiled today but the tannins are also riper and sweeter and the finish longer.

The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Poggio alle Mura blasts across the palate with a heady array of black cherries, camphor, licorice and spices. The wine possesses gorgeous depth and inner sweetness in a plush, inviting style with plenty of early appeal. An explosive finish rounds things out in style. The Poggio alle Mura was aged in 350-liter barrels. Banfi continues to step up their game with the 2007 Brunelli, the first wines made with a new approach to small-lot vinification that seeks to get the best out of the 47 Sangiovese parcels the estate owns.
