Tasting notes
The 1985 Beau-Séjour Bécot was picked between 3 and 7 October. Showing some bricking on the rim, it has a light bouquet with scents of pressed flowers, redcurrant and sous-bois , becoming more peat-like with aeration. It does not have the corpulence of the best 1985 Right Banks but there is decent delineation here. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly rustic tannin. My main criticism is that for the vintage it lacks rondeur and fleshiness, tapering towards the finish when it should be fanning out. It has an easy-drinking nature but it feels as if it should be consumed in the near future. Tasted at the château.

The 1985 is a rich, ripe, relatively alcoholic wine possessing a charming, precocious personality, medium to full body, low acidity, but plenty of flesh and fruit. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 3/90.
