The 2002 Echézeaux Les Rouges du Bas Grand Cru has an attractive, quite open and generous bouquet with red cherries, crushed strawberry, rose petal and mineral aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity and a silky smooth, quite sensual finish that feels caressing and poised. This is a beautifully crafted wine by Jean-Nicolas Méo. Tasted at Sarah Marsh MW’s 2002 Red Burgundy tasting.

Transparent garnet. Sweet, brooding nose. Rather exotic, sweet, boudoir-scented nose. (Lots of various perfumes and powders.) Then quite dry on the end. Pretty impressive with good freshness as well as ripe fruit. (JR)

Bright ruby-red. Pure, perfumed aromas of raspberry, cherry and minerals. Juicy, pure and leanish, with good cut and inner-mouth aromatics. Elegantly styled grand cru with modest body fat; comes across as less dense than the Clos Vougeot. Finishes with firm tannins.
