Score 93/100 · Drink 1996-2026, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Feb 2025

The 1986 Echézeaux Grand Cru is about as good as this challenging red Burgundy vintage gets, offering up an appealing bouquet of raspberries and plums mingled with notions of smoke, marmalade and exotic spices. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and vibrant, with melted tannins and a beautifully pure, precise core of fruit, it's an impressive achievement that continues to drink brilliantly.

About the producer

Henri Jayer - producer
Henri Jayer

The wines of Henri Jayer (1922-2006) have mythical status in Burgundy. Coveted by many but tasted by just a precious few, they are some of the region’s rarest and most desirable – considered by some to be the pinnacle of what can be achieved with Pinot Noir.
