The 2006 Malartic-Lagravière has a delineated bouquet of mainly blackberry and blueberry, almost mimicking Margaux with charming violet aromas. The aromatics are very seductive but as I have observed on other bottles, the palate does not quite match up: rigid and obdurate with graphite towards the finish that seems to have never quite shaken the hardness it was born with. Maybe one day it will mellow, although by now I would have expected that to happen already. Tasted at the vertical tasting at Malartic-Lagravière.

Beeswax, lemon curd, vanilla pod, cereal – has the right balance of fresh citrus fruit with interesting development on the palate. Medium length with all the flavours in great proportion. Really interesting, and a good advert for aged white Bordeaux. (RH)
Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London. The 2006 Château Malartic-Lagravière has a well-defined bouquet with blackberry, blueberry and violet scents. I appreciate the control and precision on display here. The palate does not quite match the quality of the nose, although it still offers pleasure: blackberry and subtle spicy notes, quite steely in the mouth with a vivid but linear, black cherry and boysenberry finish. With time, hints of pencil lead evolve in the glass and become more prominent on the finish. Drink now and over the next decade. Tasted January 2016.
About the producer
One of few estates classified for both red and white wine production, Malartic-Lagravière was renovated entirely after the Bonnie family purchased it in 1996. They also expanded the property to its current 53 hectares.
