The 1977 Corton-Charlemagne is actually my own contribution to La Paulée. It is of course, a disparaged vintage, but the colour was so clear that I gave it a punt and it turned out to be one I do not regret. The bouquet is fresh and charming with dried honey, rosewater and algae-like aromas (imagine cleaning out an aquarium!) The palate is not complex but certainly balanced, quite bitter in the mouth but fresh, leading to a finish that reminds me of a mature white Châteauneuf. A lovely surprise given the deplorable growing season. Tasted at La Paulée in Beaune.
