The 2012 Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru feels a little predictable on the nose, not quite delivering the energy and delineation of the better Premier Crus. The palate is nicely balanced with well-integrated oak, touches of blood orange and a pleasant saline element toward the finish. It just seems to miss the breeding of a great Corton-Charlemagne.

Lovely nutty, charismatic nose. Bacon, apple, smoke – loads going on – shows all the esoterica of great white burgundy. In context, it’s not exactly bad value, either! (RH)
Here too there are vestiges of post-bottling sulfur that overwhelms the fruit at present. The broad-shouldered flavors are tightly coiled and highly energetic as this really vibrates in the mouth. There is excellent mid-palate density with an almost pungent minerality that adds a sense of lift to the moderately dry, highly complex and seriously long finish. This will definitely require at least 5 years of bottle age to unwind and flesh out but it should be more than worth the wait as the potential here is striking. Recommended. Tasted: Jun 15, 2014. About the producer
Based in Pernand-Vergelesses, the Rapet family has been involved in wine since at least the 18th century. The property owns 20 hectares of vines around and on the hill of Corton. Vincent and Sylvette are at the helm today, with their son Robin now working alongside them.
