Tasting notes
Score 90/100 · Drink 2005-2011, Pierre Rovani, Apr 2003

Minerals and flowers can be found in the aromatics of the 2001 Corton-Charlemagne. Well-done, balanced, focused, and revealing good depth, it has the austerity common in wines from this terroir. Loads of minerals and stones can be detected in its highly detailed, light to medium-bodied character. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2011. Importer: Vineyard Brands, Birmingham, AL; tel. (205) 980-8802 Note: Vincent Girardin also bottles some of these same wines under the Baron de la Charriere label, imported by Eric Solomon, European Cellars, Charlotte, NC; tel. (704) 358-1565.

Definite almonds and floral notes, but without quite enough weight to justify Grand Cru status. Relatively inexpensive, though. (JR)

Steely, highly aromatic nose of apple, nutmeg and vanillin oak. Tightly wound and solidly structured, with penetrating acidity and a firm steely spine. Classic ripe Corton-Charlemagne: fine rather than heavy, and very long, bright and steely on the aftertaste.
