The 2012 Siran is nicely detailed on the nose with redcurrant, red plum, crushed stone, cedar and pencil lead scents vying for energy - great energy here. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy and quite firm tannins. Graphite-tinged black fruit becomes spicier with aeration, the finish offering both substance and length. This has always been a very fine Siran and it continues to improve with bottle age. Tasted from a bottle at home.

Tasted at the vertical held at the property, the 2012 Château Siran, a blend of 55% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot, has a very composed and delineated bouquet with scents of red plum, raspberry, mineral, cedar and a touch of graphite. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, gently grippy tannin, and graphite-tinged black fruit that turns spicier towards the finish, which displays commendable substance and persistence - a 2012 Margaux with ambitions. This is a very fine Siran, much better than many of the wines produced in the 1990s and it comes recommended. Tasted February 2016.

Tasted blind. Deep shaded crimson. Round and ripe with some freshness. Fills the palate. Just a little sandpapery on the finish but pretty good. (JR)

About the producer

Ch. Siran
Siran

In the south of Margaux, this property has 36 hectares of vines. There’s an unusually large proportion of Petit Verdot (13%) in the vineyard, something which the team feels adds finesse, concentration and a spicy finish to the wine.
