Medium red. Cassis, cocoa powder and sexy oak spices on the nose. Sweet and lush but also sappy and deep, with a strong kernel of berry and spice flavor. Manages to be both creamy and shapely, thanks to harmonious acidity. A concentrated, firmly structured wine with a persistent, ripely tannic finish.
Plummy dark cherries burst from the glass of the ruby-colored 2001 Vosne-Romanee Les Petits Monts. Produced from a parcel owned by Veronique Drouhin, this appealing medium-bodied wine expands in the mouth to reveal blackberries and grapey flavors. Supple, and generous, some alcoholic heat can be found in its finish. Drink it over the next 5 years. Importer: Dreyfus Ashby, New York, NY; tel. (212) 818-0770
