Score 89-92/100 · Drink 2002-2010, Pierre Rovani, Oct 1999

The 1997 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St. Jacques displays a ruby color and aromas reminiscent of spice-laden black fruits. Laurent employed his 200% new oak treatment on this medium-bodied, foursquare offering. Presently austere and firm (yet elegant), it reveals brambleberry as well as briar-like flavors. If it is bottled without losing any of its fruit, it will prove to be a long-lived 1997. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2010+. Importer: ???????????

Ruby-red. Noble aromas of raw crushed raspberry, cherry, minerals and vanilla. Sweet, lush and seamless, with superb inner-mouth complexity. Great breed and terroir character. Extremely long, fine aftertaste features a burst of black cherry flavor.
