Tasting notes
Still some black and blue in the crimson. Autumn mulch on the nose. Sweet, intense fruit. A bit bumptious rather than subtle. Drying on the finish. A little awkward and jagged at the moment. Acidity dominates on the finish. Burly. Quite long. (JR)

The 2006 Barolo Bricco delle Viole is simply breathtaking; in fact it is easily among the most refined wines in this powerful, structured vintage. Fine, silky tannins caress the palate from start to finish as beautifully articulated, nuanced layers of fruit emerge from the glass. With air, the wine's broad shoulders begin to fill out nicely. Impossibly silky from start to finish, the 2006 Bricco delle Viole impresses for its sublime elegance. Today the wine is understandably quite vibrant and fresh, but it will develop splendidly in the coming years. Readers who appreciate the finest in traditionally made Barolo will not want to miss this.

Aldo and Milena Vajra craft some of the most beautiful, original wines in all of Italy. Frankly, it is impossible to go wrong with any of these superb bottles. Barolo. Concentrated youthful ruby. Herbal and tea leaf notes. Cherry liqueur. Concentrated fruit attack. Quite rich, matched by crunchy tannins. Long and dense. (WS)
