Score 92/100 · Drink 2019-2029, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Apr 2012

The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées impresses for its superb textural richness. Dark red cherries, flowers, mint and spices are woven together in a fabric of notable beauty. There is plenty of tannic material, but the fruit is so dense the wine's structural elements are a bit in the background. The wine continued to close down in the glass, which is likely to be quite positive for its aging potential. Despite the massive temptation to drink this early, my impression is that patience will be rewarded.

Tasting these 2009s from bottle, it hard to argue with that view. A Becky Wasserman Selection, Le Serbet, various American importers, including: Martin Scott Wines, Little Neck, NY; tel. Good bright, dark red. Enticing aromas of raspberry, blueberry, menthol, minerals and spices, plus a whiff of cherry liqueur. Creamy-ripe-in fact, almost chocolatey-but with a firmer mineral underpinning than the village wine. Still a bit warm and aggressive on the tannic aftertaste. This sample went into a shell in my glass, which I took as a positive sign.

Light crimson, very light. Lightly mossy nose. Strong cherry fruit with great precision. Vital, great balance. (JR)
