Pale straw. Firm and structured with a smoky nose and a bone-dry finish. Medium bodied. Rather haunting after a while in the glass. (JR)

The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Clos de l'Arlot has begun to shut down, even though it possesses tremendous depth. The warm, radiant personality of the vintage is present but the tannins have become much more prominent over the last year, always a good sign for potential longevity. The 2009 reveals notable freshness and vibrancy all the way through to the finish, where the wine becomes weightless and totally beautiful.

I was blown away by Domaine de l’Arlot’s 2009s when I tasted them from bottle. Most of the wines came in at the high end or above my projected scores from barrel. I found a purity and frankness in these wines that was compelling. Various American importers, including: A Daniel Johnnes Selection imported by Michael Skurnik Wines, Syosset, NY, tel. Good red color. Redcurrant, truffle, smoked meat and chocolate on the nose. At once liqueur-like and energetic, with solid saline extract leavening the red berry and chocolate flavors. Shows the essential tenderness of the vintage but there's good peppery energy here from the whole-cluster vinification. The serious tannins reach the molars on the aftertaste. This calls for four or five years of patience.
