Score 96/100 · Drink 2023-2045, Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux, Nov 2023

Fine tannins, less opulence than you find in the warmer vintages, but still with inky depths and grilled herb richness to the blackberry, bilberry and cassis fruit. This was a very dry spring, unusually so for Bordeaux, followed by a dry but cooler summer, and the focus is on Cabernet Franc with edges of coffee, cold ash, mint, all wrapped up with tannins polished by 12 years in bottle. The flavours remain vibrant, and this is just a deliciously nuanced bottle. 100% new oak. François Mitjavile owner at this distinctive estate.

The 2011 Tertre-Rôteboeuf has an intense, Grenache-like bouquet with red cherries, vanilla pod, mocha and light truffle scents. Not exactly Bordeaux-like, yet not unattractive. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, sharp red fruit laced with white pepper, touches of blood orange towards the finish. This is à point. Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting.

Tasted blind. Quite evolved rim. Perfumed and quite fun. Very resolved tannins and a dry but not drying finish. Classic claret for current drinking, if a tad dry on the end. (JR)

Dark with garnet rim. Sweet dark-cherry fruit and some sweet tobacco, quite firm on the palate, though the tannins are fluid if dry and the whole is fresh. Deep, savoury core. Much still hidden. (JH)
