2002 Shiraz Savitar

Tasting notes
Meaty, sweet, acidity sticks out to make this a slightly jagged whole. Very bright fruit with real density. Acid and tannin better integrated than in the Savitar 2001 which was itself pretty jazzy. (JR)

The saturated blue/purple-colored 2002 Shiraz Savitar offers gorgeous aromas of white flowers, liquid minerals, blackberries, blueberries, earth, and tree bark. Ripe and full-bodied, with great intensity, this prodigious effort will require 2-3 years of cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2018. Barrel samples of three 2002s revealed tremendous potential in what appears to be the finest efforts Mitolo has yet produced. There are 300-400 cases of each, and all three are scheduled to be bottled in October. Kudos to young importer (31 years old!) Ben Hammerschlag for unearthing these potential superstars.
