I previously rated the 1990 Hermitage Cuvee des Miaux 90 points, indicating that I thought it was the finest Hermitage Ferraton has made. I have recently tasted it twice, once in France and once stateside, and it was markedly superior to my original review. Small quantities are still available. From what is unquestionably the greatest Hermitage vintage since 1961, this wine is black in color, with a huge, developing bouquet of jammy cassis, mineral, spicy, floral, and licorice scents. Massively endowed, with frightfully high levels of glycerin, extract, and tannin, this is an old style, super-concentrated, beautifully pure, well-delineated Hermitage for drinking between 2005-2040.
