(vinified with 30% whole clusters): Bright dark red. Fresh, expressive aromas of black and red cherry, flowers and game. Sweet, tangy dark berry flavors are complicated by a whiff of game and nicely lifted by herbal and peppery nuances. Juicy, intense village wine with firm, ripe tannins.

The 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin is beautifully layered and focused in the glass. Sweet tobacco, anise, cherry pit and cinnamon meld together in a Gevrey endowed with terrific energy and drive. This is a gorgeous village-level Gevrey.

The 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has a tightly coiled, earthy bouquet that takes you straight to a forest-floor on a damp October morning. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp blackberry and raspberry on the entry interlaced with white pepper and a touch of balsamic that lends freshness and tension. Good length in the mouth, this is a delicious village cru, though the 2012 just has the edge. Drink now-2024+. Having tasted through her excellent 2012s, Sylvie invited me a run through her 2011s that had been bottled in April 2013. Importer: Louis/Dressner Selections, New York, NY; tel. (one-third vendange entier; chaptalized one degree to 13%): Bright, deep full red. Spicy black cherry, licorice and herbs on the nose. Rich and sweet in the mouth, with nicely integrated acidity and good spicy, herbal lift to the pungent red and dark cherry flavors. Seems a bit more stony and firm than usual for this wine. Finishes with notes of chocolate and herbs.
