The 1964 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has a light, loose-knit mulberry nose with the same seaweed tincture that I noticed in previous bottles. Rustic and ferrous in style, yet balanced with a lovely tart finish, this elegant Gevrey is fading gracefully away. Tasted blind at Noble Rot in London.

The 1964 Gevrey-Chambertin Village is missing some vigor on the nose although it offers remnants of mulberry fruit and the marine/seaweed scent I remarked on the one previous bottle that I encountered. Rustic and probably missing the freshness to make it truly enjoyable, the tart finish is perhaps its one redeeming feature. Drink up if you see any bottles.

The oldest bottle of Rousseau that I have tasted, this 1964 Gevry Chambertin is probably a few years past its best, although you can excuse that. Tasted blind, there remains impressive intensity on the nose with dusky mulberry fruit infused with seaweed and leather. The palate is rustic but with vestiges of freshness, a pleasant line of acidity with a touch of piquancy on the simple but pleasurable finish. Lovely, but drink up sooner rather than later.
