Bright crimson. Very solid and pure – textbook Gevrey. Super pure. They have 'quite good stocks'. Very pure but dense. (JR)

The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin is a pretty, sleek wine layered with elegant fruit and vibrant perfume. This shows lovely focus and energy, not to mention terrific overall balance. I would not be surprised to see this merit a higher score with further bottle age.

I would not be surprised to see this merit a higher score with further bottle age. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022. Arnaud Mortet told me he is working with less extraction and lower levels of new oak than his father used to employ. Mortet did 5 days of cold maceration followed by 20 or so days of fermentation with very light extraction. The malos finished between June and November 2010, on the late side for the vintage. Good ruby-red. Redcurrant, leather and oaky coffee on the nose, with some sulfur showing. Shows a darker fruit character than the Fixin but this is tougher and more imploded today. Still a light malic acid note here, which gives a slight dryness to the spicy finish. In a reduced phase and difficult to taste today.
