Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Chambolle-Musigny Les Feusselottes 2011 is much more reserved on the nose compared to its peers, although one can immediately appreciate the delineation and focus. There is judicious stem addition here. It just needs to come out of its shell -- and it will. The class comes through on the palate that boasts impressive depth and cohesion, although it remains tight in its shell. Cellar required, but it will be worth the wait.

(vinified with 60% whole clusters): Good deep red. Complex aromas of brambly raspberry, dark cherry, menthol, licorice, leather and brown spices, plus an element of chocolatey torrefaction. Juicy and tightly wound, with a tight core of spice and good rocky tension. Saline and savory in a positive way. Nicely balanced and not at all hard, but the wine's rocky minerality gives it a serious mien today.

The best elements of the vintage come together in the 2011 Chambolle-Musigny Les Feusselottes. Expressive and layered, the 2011 is a bit richer than normal, which makes it incredibly appealing young. This is a relatively large-scaled Feusselottes with tons of fruit and exquisite perfume, all backed up by serious structure. Tremblay picked this fruit in three separate passes.

Great tension on top of briary fruit. Very intense. Firm and fine and set for the long term. Not a foot wrong! Quite a bit of tannin. Dry finish. (JR)
