Score 89/100 · Drink 2006-2013, Robert Parker, Apr 2006

An attractive blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the dense ruby/purple-hued 2003 La Couspaude exhibits a big, smoky, oaky nose, loads of sweet black currant and cherry fruit, medium body, and abundant superficial charm. However, there is not much depth or persistence. Nevertheless, it will provide enjoyable drinking over the next 5-7 years.

Very, very deep, but healthy crimson. Interesting nose – real life. They claim they didn’t suffer water stress, and de-leafed as usual. Very rich, yet saved by good natural acidity and some tea flavours. Not that tannic, but lovely early drinking. (JR)

Spoilt by an excess of new oak on the nose – which came as quite a refreshing change from the lashings of overripe fruit to be found in the noses of so many of these wines. VERY strange mulled wine smell. Big, sweet, loose and soupy on the mid palate and very dry on the finish. (JR)

Good medium ruby. Sexy oak spices lift the raspberry, licorice and espresso aromas. Then dense and thick, with dark fruit and oak spice flavors. A rather extractive style, but the wine shows good richness and finishing sweetness to accompany the chewy tannins.
