Tasting notes
This is more closed on the nose than the 2006 Bricco Boschis but there is intensity here. Fresh cherry fruit and a touch of candied fruit on top. Refreshing acidity on the palate with sweetness to the fruit. Impressive depth and length. Needs more time. Very good.

Cavallotto's 2006 Barolo Riserva Vignolo is quite a bit silkier than the San Giuseppe, and I imagine it will also develop a little faster in bottle, but it is so fabulous I doubt readers will be unhappy about being able to enjoy such a fine Barolo without having to wait an eternity. Freshly cut flowers, sweet dark raspberries, licorice and mint are all woven together in a fabric of notable class and elegance. In 2006 the Vignolo marries power and finesse to a degree I have rarely, if ever, seen before in this Riserva. The 2006 has pure structure to burn. I can't wait to see what the future has in store.
Castiglione Falletto. Very dark, almost impenetrable ruby. Earth and iron and young, sweet raspberry with gripping but ripe tannin. Elegant mouthfeel and very long. (WS)
The 2006 Barolo Riserva Vignolo literally sparkles on the palate with layers of brilliant dark red fruit, flowers, mint and spices. It shows striking inner sweetness and perfume, with big yet well-integrated tannins and breathtaking balance. This is a great 2006 Barolo in the making. The tannins are huge, but so is the fruit. The 2006 Vignolo is going to be a fascinating wine to follow over the next few decades.
