Tasting notes
The least expensive offering here is the 2000 Vinas de Gain, a 100% Tempranillo cuvee produced from five different high altitude vineyards. Yields were a modest 35 hectoliters per hectare. This elegant, medium dark ruby-colored Rioja exhibits Burgundian-like characteristics of sweet and sour cherries, vanilla, and spice. Restrained yet richly fruity, pure, and nicely textured, it will provide enjoyment over the next 2-3 years. Importer: Eric Solomon, European Selections, Charlotte, NC; tel. (704) 358-1565
