From a blockbuster vintage, the 1961 Château Clos de Sarpe showed a touch of fatigue in its aromatics yet still has outstanding complexity and nuance in its blackcurrant, chocolate, dried tobacco, and loamy earth-laced aromas and flavors. Nicely textured, medium to full-bodied, and balanced, it still has some notable tannins, yet they're sweet, not dry, and certainly don't detract. It's fully mature and offers plenty of pleasure.

About the producer

Clos de Sarpe
This small Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé estate is a FINE+RARE favourite. Run by Maylis Marcenat, the fourth generation of her family to do so, the 3.7-hectare vineyard has old vines and limestone soils, producing wines of incredible freshness and great ageability.
