Tasting notes
The 2004 Gevrey-Chambertin Racine du Temps, from magnum, is completely bricked through in terms of color. The bouquet offers smudged raspberry fruit mixed with iron piping, damp earth and faint rose petal scents. The palate is better than the 2004 Marsannay Clos du Roy, delivering more stuffing and sweetness, although it fails to really exert much grip and misses some freshness on the finish. Tasted at Sarah Marsh’s 2003/2004 tasting in London.

Magnum. Blend of two village vineyards on the Brochon side. Dark rust with an evolved rim. Rather simple, slightly candified nose. Rich start and then some leafiness. Not quite a whole; edgy fine tannins on the end, sweet fruit at the beginning and acidity that’s not totally knit. Rather scratchy tannins, though it may mellow eventually. Drinking dates suggested are for a magnum. (JR)
About the producer

Domaine René Bouvier is a truly exciting estate in Marsannay – and one of a handful of properties bringing greater attention to a village once best known for its rosé.
