Tasting Notes
There is an herbal tea hint to the otherwise agreeably spicy mix of various dark berry aromas along with plum, cassis and cherry nuances. There is good volume to the round, velvety and unusually accessible medium weight flavors that culminate in a firm and dusty finish that is less overtly muscular than usual. In my experience Potel has been very consistent with this wine but the 2011 version is not at its usual level. Tasted: Apr 15, 2014. Drink: 2018+

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Malconsorts 2011 has a fragrant and complex, mineral-rich bouquet that is extremely well focused, yet one can tell that it is holding something back for the patient. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp chalky tannins, slightly brittle in the mouth with fine tension on the pepper-tinged, reserved and flirting-with-austere finish. However, there is impressive substance here. Nov 2014, www.robertparker.com

About the producer

Nicolas Potel is one of Burgundy’s most talented and connected winemakers. He created Maison Roche de Bellene, the négoce arm of Domaine de Bellene, in 2008, using his extensive network in the region to source top-quality fruit for an "haute couture" négociant operation.
