The 2011 Volnay Clos des 60 Ouvrées 1er Cru has an utterly charming bouquet with bright red berry fruit, sage and mineral, and is quite expressive of the vineyard. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannin, perhaps not as energetic as I expected it to be after the aromatics and just fading a little on the finish. Not bad but I am not sure I would leave this long term. Tasted at the domaine in Volnay.

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Volnay 1er Cru Clos des 60 Ouvrées 2011 has a very attractive, ebullient floral bouquet with dried rose petals and lavender infusing the crushed strawberry and raspberry scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a keen thread of acidity; taut and linear and yet with great intensity on the sophisticated, intellectual finish. The terroir shows really well here – a Volnay with plenty of panache and pedigree. You can approach this now, but it will improve. This is one of the best Volnays out there.
Good bright red. Dark, high-pitched aromas of blackberry, black cherry, licorice and violet. Less forthcoming today than the Bousse d'Or, with firm stony minerality giving precision and grip to the flavors of black cherry, crushed stone and garrigue . Very good density and depth here, and lovely persistence for the year.
