Full ruby-red. More lift and finesse to the cooler aromas of tangy black cherry, smoke and spices. Suave in texture and fresh, with flavors of sweet briary fruits and dark chocolate. Round and silky but not at all heavy; less porty and more perfumed than most of these 2004s. This has more breed. Spreads out nicely on the persistent finish, which features fine tannins.

Good deep red-ruby. Sexy nose combines raspberry, brown spices, mocha, chocolate and tar. Ripe, sweet and full, with a lush, rather gentle texture for the year. A bit less complex in the mouth than on the nose but spreads out nicely to coat the palate. Finishes juicy and firm but not dry, with sound acidity and substantial dusty tannins. From vines planted in 1990.
Cask sample. Relatively pale for a Grand Cru. Light, scented – really very light weight for a Grand Cru. Perfectly acceptable, but not really Grand Cru quality. Pretty rather than beautiful. (JR)
