I thought Lignier's best 1988 was his Clos de la Roche, which had a great nose of berry fruit, spicy new oak, minerals, and flowers. In the mouth, it offered excellent concentration, medium body, wonderful harmony among all its elements, and a long finish. It is the most concentrated and longest-lived 1988, but I would still want to drink it within its first decade of life. All things considered, I suspect if the yields had been lower and Lignier had bottled his 1988s earlier, it would have been significantly better.
