The 2009 from Clos Dubreuil is mostly Merlot, with 10% Cabernet Franc. It’s a big, rich, pedal-to-the-metal beauty that offers tons of chocolatey blackcurrants, smoked herbs, licorice and hints of flowers. Voluptuous, decadent, and even opulent, yet still fresh and impeccably balanced, drink it anytime over the coming 15+ years.

From a tiny, just under 10-acre vineyard east of St.-Emilion in the sector known as St.-Christophe des Bardes, this wine is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, tipping the scales at 14.9% alcohol. It was bottle unfined and unfiltered. Loads of chocolate, roasted espresso, blackberry and blueberry fruit notes along with some smoke and burning embers jump from a glass of this wine, which has terrific fruit intensity, a massive mouthfeel, yet not a trace of astringency or hardness. Velvety tannins, low acidity and an extraordinary, opulent, even sumptuous mouthfeel make for a wine to drink over the next 10-15 years.
Very dark crimson. Warm, ripe, black cherry juice on the nose. Very luscious. The fruit and the fine tannins are very disjointed at the moment. But all should eventually come together. Very sweet – almost Pomerol-like. (JR)
