The 1998 Grand Puy Ducasse is disappointing on the nose: very green and leafy, lacking the fruit one would expect, although there is a sense of freshness that comes through. The palate is medium-bodied with a sharp, angular entry. This feels rather rustic, encumbered with fruit that feels as if it never achieved full ripeness levels and possibly affected by the harvest rains. Drink soon. Tasted at the château.

Black fruits dominate the moderately intense nose of this saturated ruby/purple-colored 1998. Medium-bodied, savory, and user-friendly, it suffers only from a lack of complexity. Drink it over the next 10-12 years.
