The first vintage under the new ownership of Aubert Freres (one of the major owners of Chateau Cheval Blanc), this wine is made by Pierre Lurton. About 80% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc, this is a lighter-weight wine than the 2010, but it displays plenty of gravelly, earthy notes intermixed with herbs as well as red and black currants, in an elegant style reminiscent of Pinot Noir. The wine is already drinking well and is certainly a sleeper of the vintage. It should keep for at least another 7-8 years, but don’t expect it to be long-lived.

Big and bold on the front palate – lots of impact. Then masses of tannin and acid – too much for comfort. SO dry!!! (JR)
