Score 95/100 · Drink 2016-2030, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Jun 2014

From the Serralunga d’Alba township, the 2010 Barolo Parafada is a powerhouse wine that meets that difficult balance between elegance and sheer muscle. Of Massolino’s new releases, this wine stands apart for its beautifully saturated appearance and the rich plushness of the mouthfeel. This is a gorgeous wine that is not too far off from the start of its drinking window. With just a few more years in the cellar, Parafada has the natural power and structure to pair with succulent cuts of meat. Drink: 2016-2030. Importer: Vineyard Brands, www.vineyardbrands.com

The 2010 Barolo Parafada is beautifully layered in the glass. Plum, black cherry, violets and lavender all take shape in the glass. Attractive savory notes appear later, adding lift and freshness. In this vintage the Parafada is chiseled and delineated, with more than enough energy to drink well for a number of years. Stylistically, the Parafada is more lifted and savory than the Margheria, with a wonderful undercurrent of minerality that supports the finish.

Good deep red. Musky aromas of spices, menthol and marzipan are currently blocked by nutty reduction. Big and rich but light on its feet, with red fruit and spice flavors currently in the deep background. This is really brutally closed today and revealing very little. Finishes with serious, youthfully tough tannins. Almost certainly better than it's showing today, but this is locked up tight. For his part, Massolino predicts that 2010 will be a 40-year vintage for Barolo.
