This has a powerful nose with preserved apricots in a battle with the alcohol (13.5%) and some savoury notes coming through too. Complex, this nose becomes more and more honeyed with air. The acidity is very well balanced and there is good length, allowing you to enjoy the stone fruits that develop into more complex savoury flavours, a little bready but hard to place.

Golden colour, but with green edges indicating ability to age, some oakiness but as with Rieussec impressive texture and aftertaste, great class, and perfect 'Haut-Bommes' type (Haut-Bommes is the name of the most elevated Sauternes quarter). Drink 2020-2050. (18.5 points) Michel Bettane, decanter.com

Deep orangey gold. Very big and quite beery. Massively sweet – quite an achievement! With the 2010 streak of acidity. Fresh and vigorous but confident and well made. Masses of intrusive acidity. RS 130 g/l, TA 3.9 g/l. 13.7% Jancis Robinson, jancisrobinson.com

This has quite a bit of sulphur on the nose at first, but it clears with aeration. It remains tightly-coiled, with lemon, honey, apricot and limestone, demonstrating fine minerality. The palate has great tension on the entry, quite spicy and nutty in style, with a vibrant, zesty finish. This is an exuberant Sigalas-Rabaud with great potential. Neal Martin, Wine Advocate May 2011
