Score 87/100 · Drink 2019-2025, Neal Martin, Apr 2019

The 1962 Rauzan-Ségla has moderate ageing on the tawny rim but the core is healthy and clear. The bouquet is simple but well defined, still fresh and with something to offer, light red berry fruit, wild hedgerow, morels and almost Burgundy-like in style. The palate maybe does not quite match the delightful aromatics: leather, vestiges of red fruit and hints of Moroccan spice. It feels dry and austere on the finish. Sadly this 1962 does not hold up in the glass so anyone opening a bottle should not decant this but pour directly. Unsurprisingly, the 1961 Rauzan-Ségla tasted a few weeks earlier is much better. 400 barrels produced. Tasted at the Rauzan-Ségla vertical at the château.

Score 75/100 · Drink 1978, Robert Parker, Jan 1998

This is an uncharacteristic wine for the 1962 vintage that produced so many elegant, charming, round, fruity wines. Hard, lean, and austere, without much richness or charm, this wine's fruit has no chance of ever outdistancing the considerable tannins that are still present. Anticipated maturity: Now-probably in serious decline. Last tasted, 2/78.
