Score 88/100 · Drink 2014-2020, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Apr 2014

The 2004 Doisy-Daene had a peculiar showing, one that certainly has not reached the heights of previous bottles. It has a straightforward gooseberry and white flower-scented nose that is missing some depth and penetration. The palate is better, with an appealing, caressing entry of tangerine, apricot and marmalade, though it needs more tension toward the finish, which is content to doggie paddle rather than front crawl. This just seems a little “flightless” to what I was expecting. Drink now-2020. Tasted February 2014.

80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc from Denis Dubourdieu's 15 ha estate with vineyards composed of sand and calcaire. Vines aged 40+ years. Three to six tries required to select finest pourriture noble grapes. 18 months in barrel. Very big and tastes rather loose textured immediately after the Suduiraut. (JR)

Very, very sweet and full and round. Apricot juice of the most heavenly sort. Very easy to love. Long and very fresh. (JR)

This Second Growth estate has origins dating back to the late 1800s. It is, however, under the ownership of the Dubourdieu family – who took over the Barsac property in 1924 – that Ch. Doisy-Daëne truly flourished.
