Tasting notes
The 1997 Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux 1er Cru is a vintage that I have not encountered previously. It has a lovely bouquet like a coiled spring, featuring red currants, raspberry preserve and hints of potpourri, all extremely well defined. The palate is quite powerful for a 1997 Côte de Nuits, gently but insistently gripping the mouth, and adorned with layers of red berry fruit tinged with white pepper and clove. Probably this is at its peak, but it will give at least another decade of drinking pleasure.

Slightly less saturated color. Pungent aromas of red berries, bitter cherry and flowers, plus a whiff of more exotic fruits. Thicker and more floral on the palate, with enticing inner mouth aromas and good supporting acids. Like the Brulees, quite serious for a '97.
