Grainy-looking garnet. Great freshness but overall heady and layered with some rich camphor notes. Rich undertow of ripe, layered fruit still. Most of the tannin is now dissipated. Heady spices and dry on the finish. Not quite as ethereal as the Emmanuel Rouget Cros Parantoux 1993 this was meant to be tasted alongside but wasn't owing to a mistake. This is definitely a bit leaner. (JR)

The two premier crus from Vosne-Romanee are outstanding wines. The Vosne-Romanee Cros Parantoux is more tannic and less charming than Les Brulees, but equally concentrated and more masculine, with considerable muscle, body, and power. There are gobs of black fruits in the nose, and the wine finishes with firmness and tightness. It needs at least 5-6 years of cellaring and should keep for 15+ years. Meo-Camuzet's 1993s are unquestionably successes for the vintage. All the wines were bottled in April, 1995 without fining or filtration.
