Score 92-94/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2009
Deep, saturated red-ruby. Knockout nose shows superb lift to the aromas of blackberry, licorice, minerals, menthol and herbs; a distinctly Chambolle style. Powerful and penetrating but backward, with compelling purity to the dark berry, mineral and menthol flavors. The menthol element gives the firmly tannic finish a medicinal austerity-not a bad thing in the 2007 vintage. This will require extended aging to express itself. Laurent says that these are 90-year-old vines adjacent to de Vogue's holding, all in Chambolle-Musigny.
