Score 90+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2007
(these vines always ripen quickly and are usually picked first; aged in 60% new barrels, compared to 40% for the village wines) Saturated deep red. Black fruit, iron and meat aromas lifted by violet, pepper and menthol. Juicy, pure and penetrating, with smoked meat and spice notes adding interest to the berry and violet flavors. Finishes long and aromatic, with a firm dusting of tannins. This very vibrant, minerally wine has the strength of material to age well.
