The 1973 Climens is not as successful as the 1972. Pale golden hue. The nose is light with aromas of Clementine and mango, a background kerosene scent. The palate is quite enjoyable with citrus fruit, marmalade and fresh quince, just missing a bit of length on the finish. Drink soon. Tasted April 2009 at Château Climens.

Orangey coppery. Full and barley sugar – not as brisk as the 1974. Bit of citrus peel and drying out on the end. Bit of dryness and vitality. Bitterness of grapefruit peel. (JR)

RS 98 g/l   TA 4.4 g/l (sulphuric) Amber-tinged gold. Very rich and sweet, dried apricots without the zest of high levels of botrytis. Even though the acidity is reasonably high , the mild botrytisation results in far less zip and more generalised sweetness. Still remarkably youthful and finishes fresh and lively still.  (JH)

One of the top successes in this vintage that produced such lightweight wines, the 1973 Climens should be drunk now before its freshness and crisp, lively, fruity intensity disappear. Rather dry for a Barsac, and medium bodied, this wine has good acidity and enough flavor to merit interest. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 3/84.
