Coming from vines around Pavie and Canon-la-Gaffelière, the 2010 Clos Badon Thunevin offers a beautiful nose of currants, leafy herbs, sappy flowers, and truffle, with a complex, foresty underbrush-like character. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has polished tannins and is a mature, absolutely delicious, round, sexy 2010 to drink over the coming decade. Drink 2025-2035.

(15.5% alcohol!): Bright ruby red. Liqueur-like ripeness to the aromas of kirsch, bitter chocolate, licorice, minerals and roasted oak, lifted by a violet topnote. Dense and sweet but lively too, with a penetrating raspberry quality accented by pungent minerality and a lightly herbal aspect. This very concentrated, pure, delineated, youthfully edgy wine needs at least a few years to harmonize and soften, and its firm tannins give it good mid-term aging potential. A superb vintage for this Jean-Luc Thunevin wine. (ST)

Dense plum/purple, with notes of graphite, black raspberry, black cherry and licorice, the wine also has a hint of incense and subtle oak. With plenty of body and impressive precision as well as purity and length, it is accessible now but should hit its prime in 2-3 years and last for up to 15. A parcel not far from Canon La Gaffeliere and the Cote Pavie, this nearly 17+ acre vineyard has produced what seems to me to be the best Clos Badon that Jean-Luc Thunevin has yet made.
