A sexy, ripe, opulently-styled effort, the 1998 offers abundant quantities of chocolate, coffee, fruitcake, and berry aromas and flavors. This lush, expansive, juicy, full-bodied wine will not make "old bones," but will provide impressive drinking over the next 7-8 years. It is a sleeper of the vintage.

Deep ruby. Blackberry and mint aromas come across as less superripe than the above. Juicy and penetrating in the mouth. Less creamy than Valandraud and Virginie; less superripe and perhaps more classic. Fruit-driven and persistent. With a bit less body to buffer the tannins, this wine is less sweet on the finish. But there's plenty of personality here.
