Score 89/100 · Drink 2021-2028, Neal Martin, Jun 2021

The 1998 Clarke was tasted from two bottles, the first showing some oxidation. The second was much better with brambly red fruit, briar, undergrowth and leather aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, moderate depth, black pepper and sage notes toward the finish that now feels fully mature. Fine. Tasted at the château.

Score 87/100 · Drink 2003-2015, Robert Parker, Apr 2001

A serious effort, the 1998 reveals complex aromatics of lead pencil, red and black currants, minerals, and spice box. Graceful and medium-bodied, it possesses good ripeness, and abundant quantities of well-integrated, sweet tannin. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2015.
