Tasting notes
(tasted from cuve, where it was being prepared for bottling) Expressive aromas of ripe peach, apricot, flowers and marzipan. Nicely dense and fat but with a lightness of touch. Very ripe stone fruit flavors are complicated by notes of minerals, smoke and baked bread. The wine's 14% alcohol, the highest of these 2002s, is leavened by juicy acidity. Very harmonious now; will it be hardened by the bottling?

I adored the sweet, rich, yellow plum and white peach aromas of the 2002 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes. Medium-bodied, broad, deep, and fleshy, this is a concentrated, delineated wine crammed with white pepper-laced lemons, candied pears, as well as anise. It is spicy, intense, and boasts an impressively long, fleshy finish. Projected maturity: now-2011. Importer: William Deutsch and Sons, White Plains, NY; tel. (914) 251-9463
