Score 89+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Sep 2004

Ripe aromas and flavors of acacia flower, marzipan and nutty oak. Comes across as less sweet than the Champs-Canet, with solid minerality contributing to the impression of tightness. Vibrant today but not fleshy. This wine's firm spine calls for five or six years of additional bottle aging.

Produced from vines planted in 1992, the fresh herb and mineral-scented 2002 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes is a light to medium-bodied effort. Tightly wound yet offering appealing gravel and lemon flavors, this is a fresh, lively wine for drinking over the next 3 years.

Cask sample. Putty. Broad, easy, and round, with lots of depths and layers. (JR)
