Score 16/20 · Drink 2005-2010, Jancis Robinson MW, Nov 2008

I found this a bit dull – perhaps in contrast to those exciting 1999s. Very dark and chewy and solid – not fresh, though without the besetting sin of the 1996s of too much acidity... (JR)

Score 88-91/100 · Drink 2000-2005, Pierre Rovani, Apr 1998

Produced from vines in the southern most sector of the grand cru Corton vineyard (Les Combes), near the base of the hill, the medium-to-dark ruby colored Le Corton reveals an herbal, and black fruit-scented nose. This complex, rich, and deep wine is medium-to-full-bodied, silky, and well-made. Layers of dark cherries, blackberries, and roasting spices can be found in its delicious flavor profile. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2005. The score, on a range and in parentheses, indicates that the wine was tasted from barrel. Importer: Seagram Chateau & Estate Wines Company, New York, NY; tel (212) 572-7725.
