Tasting notes
The 2012 Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d’Orveau 1er Cru has a fragrant and perfumed bouquet - Morello cherries, brown spice and wilted rose petals all combining harmoniously, just a mote of sea spray emerging with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and a fine bead of acidity. There is a sense of linearity and focus, the spicy vein becoming more prominent towards the finely proportioned finish with just the right amount of dryness to beckon the next sip. Tasted at Flint Wines’ Taupenot-Merme retrospective.

Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Combe d'Orveaux from Taupenot-Merme has a fruit-driven, quite intense bouquet with small dark cherries, cassis and blueberry notes that are well defined, but primal and it needs a few more months to fully integrate with the oak. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin, sour cherry and dried herbs littered around the finish that is structured and stoic. Give this another couple of years to really find its groove, but there's a lot of potential here.
The 2012 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Combe d’Ormeaux is consistent in bottle. The nose is refined with plenty of luscious pure red-berry fruit. The palate is fresh and vibrant, beautifully balanced and has dispensed with the aloofness that it showed in bottle. Just lovely! Drink now-2020+. Importers: Winebow, Montvale, NJ; tel. The 2012 Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d'Orveau jumps from the glass with sweet red cherries, rose petals, mint and crushed rocks. Wonderfully alive and chiseled, the 2012 is another wine that showcases the minerality and tension that was possible to achieve in 2012. Expressive saline notes support the subtle and impeccably textured finish. This is a gorgeous showing from Romain Taupenot.
